Abstract
A method for machining the wheel running surfaces of wheels for rail vehicles using a wheel machining machine is described herein. The method includes performing a rolling process on the wheels with a rolling tool that applies a rolling force to the wheels, and adjusting the rolling force by controlling the torques of drive motors of feed axles of the rolling tool.

A device for machining the wheel running surfaces of wheels for rail vehicles comprising a wheel machining machine, having a rolling tool performing a rolling process on the wheel and applying a rolling force to the wheel;
- adjusting and controlling means for adjusting the rolling force by controlling the torques of drive motors of feed axles of the rolling tool;
- and
- re-profiling means for a re-profiling process,
- wherein the device includes at least one clamping unit for a tool, which unit is located in a defined position relative to a wheel positioned by basic setting in order to be used alternately as a receptacle for a machining tool or for the rolling tool.
