Abstract
The invention is directed to an improved method of extracting boswellic acid from Boswellia gum resin and the use of extracted boswellic acid in the manufacture of a pharmaceutical composition for treatment of an illness or disease in a patient in need thereof.
Claims10
A method of extracting boswellic acid from Boswellia gum resin, the method comprising the steps of:
- obtaining a residue by extracting Boswellia oil from Boswellia gum resin;
- precipitating the residue and separating the precipitate;
- washing and freezing the precipitate;
- grinding the frozen precipitate to a powder;
- drying the powder and extracting the boswellic acid using ethanol;
- and
- purifying the extracted boswellic acid.
