The present disclosure related to methods of treating pruritus in a subject by topically administering detomidine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, to the subject.

A method of treating pruritus comprising the topical administration, to a subject in need thereof, of a therapeutically effective amount of detomidine.
A method of treating pruritus comprising the topical administration, to a subject in need thereof, of a therapeutically effective, substantially non-systemic amount of detomidine.
