Abstract
A surgical instrument comprising a handle and a rotatable shaft is disclosed. The handle comprises a rotatable actuator configured to rotate the shaft.
Claims21
A surgical instrument, comprising:
- a handle comprising a grip;
- a shaft extending distally from said handle, wherein said shaft defines a longitudinal axis;
- a rotation joint rotatably connecting said shaft to said handle, wherein said rotation joint permits said shaft to be rotated relative to said handle about said longitudinal axis;
- and
- a shaft rotation actuator system, comprising:
- a rotatable actuator positioned distally with respect to said grip and below said shaft;
- and
- a rotatable drive gear, wherein said rotatable drive gear is meshingly engaged with said rotatable drive actuator, wherein said rotatable drive gear is meshingly engaged with said shaft, wherein said shaft is rotated in a first direction when said rotatable actuator is rotated in a first direction, and wherein said shaft is rotated in a second direction when said rotatable actuator is rotated in a second direction.
