A method for treating inflammatory bowel diseases, comprising administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of leukotoxin comprising SEQ ID NO:
- 1, wherein the inflammatory bowel diseases are characterized by an influx of immune cells into the gastrointestinal tract and activation of leukocytes that express upregulated and activated leukocyte function antigen (LFA-1) on their surface to which the leukotoxin specifically binds.
