## Abstract

A control device is provided. The control device includes a first communication interface unit which transmits a control command in a first communication mode which uses a bi-directional wireless communication, a second communication interface unit which transmits a control command in a second communication mode which uses a unidirectional wireless communication, a state determination unit which determines a communication mode of the control device, a user interface unit which displays a user interface window which corresponds to a determined communication mode and receives the control command with respect to a broadcast receiver and a control unit which transmits the received control command according to the determined communication mode.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A control device for use with a display apparatus, the control device comprising:
a user interface unit configured to receive a user input for controlling the display apparatus:
a bi-directional communication interface;
a uni-directional communication interface; and
a controller configured to:
receive, via the user interface unit, a user input for controlling the display apparatus,
in response to receiving the user input while a connection is established between the bi-directional communication interface and the display apparatus, transmit a signal, via the bi-directional communication interface, to the display apparatus, the signal corresponding to the user input for controlling the display apparatus, and
in response to receiving the user input while no connection is established between the bi-directional communication interface and the display apparatus, transmit a signal, via the uni-directional communication interface, to the display apparatus, the signal corresponding to the user input for controlling the display apparatus,
wherein while a connection is established between the bi-directional communication interface and the display apparatus, if no user input is received via the user interface unit for a predetermined time, the controller is configured to transition from a normal mode in which the bi-directional communication interface is in an active state to a sleep mode in which the bi-directional communication interface is in an inactive state.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The control device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the bi-directional communication interface corresponds to a Bluetooth (BT) module and the uni-directional communication interface corresponds to an infrared (IR) module configured to transmit IR.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The control device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the control device further comprises a display,
wherein the controller is further configured to:
display a user interface (UI) for receiving a user input to change a uni-directional communication mode to a bi-directional communication mode.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The control device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the controller is further configured to:
based on a user input being received while the control device is connected to the display apparatus through the bi-directional communication interface, identify a type of the user input, and
transmit a signal corresponding to the user input to the display apparatus through one of the bi-directional and uni-directional communication interfaces based on the type of the user input.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The control device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the controller is configured to, based on a user input being received after the connection is disconnected, transmit a signal corresponding to the user input to the display apparatus through the uni-directional communication interface.

### Claim 6

A method for controlling a control device for use with a display apparatus, the control device comprising a user interface unit configured to receive a user input for controlling the display apparatus, a bi-directional communication interface and a uni-directional communication interface, the method comprising:
receiving, via the user interface unit, a user input for controlling the display apparatus,
