Consolidation of calendar appointments

A system implementing a payment service for communicating between a service provider computing device and a plurality of merchant computing devices, the system comprising:

• one or more processors of the service provider computing device;
• and
• memory communicatively coupled to the one or more processors and storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
• receiving, from the plurality of merchant computing devices, point-of-sale (POS) transaction data associated with a plurality of POS transactions corresponding to a plurality of merchants, the plurality of merchant devices including respective instances of a POS application that configure the plurality of merchant devices to generate the POS transaction data and transmit the POS transaction data to the service provider computing device;
• storing, by the service provider computing device, the POS transaction data in one or more data stores of the payment service, the one or more data stores further storing calendar data associated with one or more electronic calendars associated with the plurality of merchants;
• identifying, by the service provider computing device, an electronic calendar of a first calendar application that is associated with a merchant of the plurality of merchants, wherein:
• the first calendar application is on a merchant computing device of the merchant and enables customers of the merchant to schedule appointments with the merchant;
• the electronic calendar has a first period of time and a second period of time and an appointment scheduled for the first period of time, wherein the appointment is scheduled via a second calendar application on a user device associated with a customer;
• and
• the second period of time is less than a threshold time away from the first period of time;
• based at least in part on the identifying:
• determining, by the service provider computing device, that the electronic calendar has less than a threshold number of appointments scheduled for the first period of time;
• accessing, by the service provider computing device, a first portion of the POS transaction data that is stored in the one or more data stores, wherein the first portion of the POS transaction data is associated with the customer to which the appointment corresponds;
• identifying, by the service provider computing device and based at least in part on the first portion of the POS transaction data, a location associated with the customer;
• accessing, by the service provider computing device, a second portion of the POS transaction data that is stored in the one or more data stores, wherein the second portion of the POS transaction data is associated with the merchant;
• identifying, by the service provider computing device and based at least in part on the second portion of the POS transaction data, a geographic region that the merchant has previously visited more than a threshold number of times and during a same period of time as the second period of time:
• determining, by the service provider computing device, that the appointment should be rescheduled to the second period of time based at least in part on determining that the location associated with the customer is within the geographical region;
• causing, by the service provider computing device, based at least in part on determining that the appointment should be rescheduled to the second period of time and independent of input from the merchant, a first notification to be presented via the second calendar application of the user device associated with the customer, wherein the first notification requests the customer to reschedule the appointment to the second period of time;
• receiving, by the service provider computing device and via the second calendar application, an indication to reschedule the appointment to the second period of time;
• based at least in part on the indication, rescheduling, by the service provider computing device, the appointment to a time during the second period of time in the electronic calendar;
• and
• causing, by the service provider computing device and based at least in part on rescheduling the appointment, a second notification to be presented via the first calendar application on the merchant computing device and the second calendar application of the user device, wherein the second notification indicates an update to the electronic calendar.

One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of one or more network-based service provider computing devices of a payment service, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• receiving, from a plurality of merchant computing devices, point-of-sale (POS) transaction data associated with a plurality of POS transactions corresponding to a plurality of merchants, the plurality of merchant computing devices including respective instances of a POS application that configure the plurality of merchant computing devices to generate the POS transaction data and transmit the POS transaction data to the one or more network-based service provider computing devices;
• storing, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, the POS transaction data in one or more data stores of the payment service, the one or more data stores further storing calendar data associated with one or more electronic calendars associated with the plurality of merchants;
• identifying, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, an electronic calendar of a calendar application that is associated with a merchant of the plurality of merchants, wherein:
• the calendar application enables a plurality of customers of the merchant to schedule appointments with the merchant;
• the electronic calendar has a first appointment scheduled for a first period of time and a second appointment scheduled for a second period of time;
• and
• the first period of time is less than a threshold time away;
• based at least in part on the identifying:
• accessing, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, a first portion of the POS transaction data that is stored in the one or more data stores, wherein the first portion of the POS transaction data is associated with a customer to which the first appointment corresponds;
• identifying, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices and based at least in part on the first portion of the POS transaction data, a location associated with a customer device of the customer;
• determining, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, that the electronic calendar has less than a threshold number of appointments scheduled with other customers for the first period of time;
• accessing, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, a second portion of the POS transaction data that is stored in the one or more data stores, wherein the second portion of the POS transaction data is associated with the merchant;
• identifying, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices and based at least in part on the second portion of the POS transaction data, a geographic region that the merchant has previously visited more than a threshold number of times and during a same period of time as the second period of time;
• determining, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, that the first appointment should be rescheduled to the second period of time based at least in part on determining that that the location associated with the customer is within the geographical region;
• causing, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, based at least in part on determining that the first appointment should be rescheduled to the second period of time and independent of input from the merchant, a notification to be presented on a first display of the customer device associated with the customer, wherein the notification causes the customer device to present, via an interface of the customer device, an indication of a request for the customer to reschedule the first appointment to a time during the second period of time;
• receiving, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices and via the first display of the customer device, an indication to reschedule the first appointment to the time during the second period of time;
• and
• based at least in part on the receiving the indication, rescheduling, by the one or more network-based service provider computing devices, the first appointment to the time during the second period of time in the electronic calendar.
