Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a hardened power and optical connection system for use with hybrid cables. The hardened power and optical connection system includes electrical pin and socket contacts for providing power connections, and ferrules for providing optical connections. The hardened power and optical connection system has an integrated fiber alignment provided through a mating relationship between a plug and a socket.

A hybrid fiber optic connector configured to mate with a mating hybrid component, the hybrid fiber optic connector comprising:
- a plug including a main body;
- a pre-assembled sleeve mounted in the main body, the pre-assembled sleeve including a first ferrule for supporting optical fibers for transmitting optical signals, the pre-assembled sleeve projecting outwardly from an end of the main body;
- one or more surrounding walls projecting outwardly from the end of the main body;
- and
- first and second electrical contacts each including an electrical pin for transmitting electrical power, the one or more surrounding walls at least partially surrounding the first and second electrical contacts such that each of the electrical pins have free ends that are recessed inside the one or more surrounding walls;
- wherein the one or more surrounding walls are separated from the pre-assembled sleeve by a gap that extends generally along a length of the pre-assembled sleeve, the gap being configured for receiving a portion of the mating hybrid component when the hybrid fiber optic connector and the mating hybrid component are coupled together.
A hybrid fiber optic connector configured to mate with a mating hybrid component, the hybrid fiber optic connector comprising:
- a plug including a main body;
- a first ferrule and a second ferrule parallel to the first ferrule, the first and second ferrules projecting outwardly from an end face of the main body;
- and
- a sleeve having one or more surrounding walls that project outwardly from the end of the main body, the one or more surrounding walls including a first curved portion for at least partially surrounding a first electrical pin for transmitting electrical power and a second curved portion for at least partially surrounding a second electrical pin for transmitting electrical power, and the first and second electrical pins having free ends that are recessed inside the one or more surrounding walls;
- wherein the one or more surrounding walls are separated from the first and second ferrules by a gap that extends generally along a length of the first and second ferrules, the gap being configured for receiving a portion of the mating hybrid component when the hybrid fiber optic connector and the mating hybrid component are coupled together.
