Abstract
A method of generating hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation is disclosed. The method comprising: (a) collecting hematopoietic stem cells; and (b) contacting the hematopoietic stem cells with an agent capable of decreasing an activity or expression of CD74 and/or of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), to thereby generate hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, and wherein the hematopoietic stem cells are not transduced with a lentivirus. Methods of increasing mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells and methods of treatment are also provided.

A method of generating hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, the method comprising:
- (a) collecting hematopoietic stem cells;
- and
- (b) contacting said hematopoietic stem cells with an agent capable of decreasing an activity or expression of CD74 and/or of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), to thereby generate hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, and wherein said hematopoietic stem cells are not transduced with a lentivirus.

A method of obtaining hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, the method comprising:
- (a) administering to a subject an effective amount of an agent capable of decreasing an activity or expression of CD74 and/or of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF);
- and
- (b) collecting hematopoietic stem cells, thereby obtaining hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation, and wherein said hematopoietic stem cells are not transduced with a lentivirus.
(canceled)
A method of increasing mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow to the peripheral blood in a healthy subject, the method comprising administering to the subject an agent capable of decreasing an activity or expression of CD74 and/or of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), thereby increasing mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells.

A method of treating a disease or condition in a subject in need of enhanced hematopoietic stem cell survival and/or expansion and/or mobilization, the method comprising administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of an agent capable of decreasing an activity or expression of CD74 and/or of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), with the proviso that when said agent is capable of decreasing said activity or expression of said CD74 the disease or condition is not a cancer and when said agent is capable of decreasing said activity or expression of said MIF the disease or condition is not a cancer, autoimmune disease or infection, thereby treating the disease or condition in the subject.
