Abstract
A novel catalyst composition and its use in the dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins. The catalyst comprises a Group VIII noble metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, and combinations thereof, and a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, indium, phosphorous, zinc, and combinations thereof, on a support. The catalyst composition is an active and selective catalyst for the catalytic dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins.
Claims26
A bimetallic catalyst composition comprising:
- a Group VIII noble metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, and combinations thereof;
- a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, indium, phosphorous, zinc and combinations thereof;
- and
- a support.

A process for the dehydrogenation of alkanes to olefins comprising:
- providing a bimetallic catalyst comprising a Group VIII noble metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, and combinations thereof;
- a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, indium, phosphorous, zinc, and combinations thereof, and a support;
- contacting the catalyst with a feedstream comprising C2 to C5+ alkanes at reaction conditions sufficient to dehydrogenate a portion of the C2 to C5+ alkanes to C2 to C5+ olefins.

A method of making a dehydrogenation catalyst comprising:
- providing a support material;
- adding to the support material a Group VIII noble metal selected from the group consisting of nickel, iron, cobalt, and combinations thereof, and a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, indium, phosphorous, zinc, and combinations thereof, to make a catalyst material;
- calcining the catalyst material;
- and
- reducing the catalyst material to form a dehydrogenation catalyst.
