Abstract
A computer system operates according to a method including: determining an image file; calculating an extraction-feature set based on content of the image file; calculating a distance measure based on the extraction-feature set according to an image recognition model; determining an image type for the image file based on the distance measure; and storing the image file according to the image type.
Claims20
A content-provider system comprising:
- a transcoder pipeline that is known to degrade, more than a predetermined amount, a perceived quality of image files of a first image type but not image files of a second image type;
- an image recognition model that distinguishes image files of the first image type from image files of the second image type;
- at least one physical processor;
- and
- physical memory comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the physical processor, cause the physical processor to:
- receive, from an end-user device, an image file;
- determining, using the image recognition model before storing contents of the image file at the content-provider system, an image type of the image file to determine whether the transcoder pipeline would degrade the perceived quality of the image file more than the predetermined amount;
- and
- store the contents of the image file according to the image type by:
- when the image type of the image file is the second image type, transcoding the image file with the transcoder pipeline, wherein transcoding the image file with the transcoder pipeline comprises:
- generating a transcoded image file from the image file;
- storing the transcoded image file at the content-provider system;
- and
- refraining from storing the image file at the content-provider system;
- and
- when the image type of the image file is the first image type, bypassing the transcoder pipeline.
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- generating, at a content-provider computing system, an image recognition model to distinguish image files of a first image type from image files of a second image type, wherein a transcoder pipeline of the content-provider computing system is known to degrade, more than a predetermined amount, a perceived quality of image files of the first image type but not image files of the second image type;
- receiving, at the content-provider computing system from an end-user device, an image file;
- determining, using the image recognition model before storing contents of the image file at the content-provider computing system, an image type of the image file to determine whether the transcoder pipeline would degrade the perceived quality of the image file more than the predetermined amount;
- and
- storing the contents of the image file according to the image type by:
- when the image type of the image file is the second image type, transcoding the image file with the transcoder pipeline, wherein transcoding the image file with the transcoder pipeline comprises:
- generating a transcoded image file from the image file;
- storing the transcoded image file at the content-provider computing system;
- and
- refraining from storing the image file at the content-provider computing system;
- and
- when the image type of the image file is the first image type, bypassing the transcoder pipeline.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising one or more computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to:
- generate, at a content-provider computing system, an image recognition model to distinguish image files of a first image type from image files of a second image type, wherein a transcoder pipeline of the content-provider computing system is known to degrade, more than a predetermined amount, a perceived quality of image files of the first image type but not image files of the second image type;
- receive, at the content-provider computing system from an end-user device, an image file;
- determine, using the image recognition model before storing contents of the image file at the content-provider computing system, an image type of the image file to determine whether the transcoder pipeline would degrade the perceived quality of the image file more than the predetermined amount;
- and
- store the contents of the image file according to the image type by:
- when the image type of the image file is the second image type, transcoding the image file with the transcoder pipeline, wherein transcoding the image file with the transcoder pipeline comprises:
- generating a transcoded image file from the image file;
- storing the transcoded image file at the content-provider computing system;
- and
- refraining from storing the image file at the content-provider computing system;
- and
- when the image type of the image file is the first image type, bypassing the transcoder pipeline.
