Systems and methods for acquiring data from articles of merchandise on display

A merchandise security system comprising:

• a plurality of security devices arranged in a wireless network and configured to secure a respective article of merchandise from theft, each of the articles of merchandise comprising identification information;
• and
• a computer system configured to wirelessly communicate with the plurality of security devices in the network and to obtain data from the plurality of security devices, the data comprising at least identification information for each of the plurality of security devices,
• wherein each of the plurality of security devices is configured to wirelessly communicate the data to the computer system for pairing each of the plurality of security devices with a respective article of merchandise and for determining whether the article of merchandise is at an incorrect display location based on the identification information of the article of merchandise.
