Mortar Gas Flow Insert

A method for controlling a delivery of one or more projectiles comprising pyrotechnic effects propelled from a projectile launch container comprising:

• providing a gas flow insert comprising a first face and a second face;
• placing the gas flow insert within the projectile launch container, the first face positioned to underlie one or more projectiles and the second face positioned to overlie a lift charge;
• placing the projectiles over the first face;
• the gas flow insert is formed to comprise a plurality of gas flow openings associated with one or more gas flow channels extending at least substantially axially to the launch container between the first and second faces;
• detonating the lift charge to cause lift charge explosion gases to enter gas flow openings through the second face and exit the first face to cause a controlled gas flow to propel the projectiles out of the projectile launch container;
• and,
• causing the gas insert to remain within the projectile launch container following detonation of the lift charge.
