Abstract
A variety of methods, medical devices, responder network servers, emergency services interfaces and call center related processes are described that can help improve responder networks designed to get a medical device such as an automated external defibrillator and/or volunteer responders to the scene of a potential medical incident.
Claims10
A method comprising:
- receiving an incident record from an emergency call center;
- automatically analyzing the incident record to determine whether an automated external defibrillator (AED) may be useful to an incident referenced by the incident record;
- and
- when it is determined that an AED may be useful to an incident, causing an incident alert to be electronically transmitted to at least one of (i) one or more registered volunteer responders, and (ii) one or more automated external defibrillators to encourage at least a first responder to take a first automated external defibrillator to a scene of the incident.
A method comprising:
- at an emergency call center, determining that a call corresponds to a potential cardiac arrest incident that may require medical assistance and can potentially benefit from defibrillator assistance;
- sending an incident network notification message to a responder network server, the incident network notification message including a location of the potential cardiac arrest incident, wherein the responder network server, is configured to identify and notify at least one of (a) a set of defibrillators, and (b) a set of volunteer responders, of the potential cardiac arrest incident;
- and
- forward the call to a medical emergency dispatch center that handles the call and arranges for the dispatch of an emergency medical responder to the potential cardiac arrest incident, wherein the emergency call center does not initiate any emergency medical responder dispatch in response to an incoming emergency call.
A computer aided dispatch unit having graphical user interface widget suitable for selection by a call center operator, wherein selection of the graphical user interface widget causes the computer aided dispatch unit to transmit a request for automated external defibrillator assistance, the request for automated external defibrillator assistance including an indication of a location of a potential cardiac arrest incident for which assistance is desired, wherein the request for automated external defibrillator assistance is a general request that does not identify any specific responder or defibrillator to be notified of the potential cardiac arrest incident, wherein the request for automated external defibrillator assistance is sent to a responder network that identifies at least one of (a) a set of defibrillators, and (b) a set of volunteer responders, to notify of the potential cardiac arrest incident.
A method comprising:
- receiving a request for defibrillator assistance that identifies a location of a potential sudden cardiac arrest incident;
- selecting a set of one or more defibrillators to be notified of the potential sudden cardiac arrest incident;
- sending a nearby incident message to each defibrillator in the selected set of defibrillators, each nearby incident message being arranged to cause the associated defibrillator to generate a nearby incident alert in response to the reception of the nearby incident message to indicate that there is the potential sudden cardiac arrest incident occurring nearby for which the associated responding defibrillator may be useful;
- and
- wherein the selection of the defibrillators for inclusion in the selected set of defibrillators is based at least in part on at least one of (i) responses to status queries sent after reception of the request for defibrillator assistance, and (ii) prior incident response histories associated with such defibrillators.
A method comprising:
- receiving a request for defibrillator assistance that identifies a location of a potential sudden cardiac arrest incident;
- selecting a set of one or more registered volunteer responders to be notified of the potential sudden cardiac arrest incident;
- and
- sending a volunteer incident alert to each volunteer responder in the selected set of registered volunteer responders, each volunteer incident alert requesting an associated registered volunteer responder's assistance at the scene of the potential sudden cardiac arrest incident;
- and
- wherein the selection of the volunteer responders for inclusion in the selected set of volunteer responders is based at least in part on prior incident response history associated with such volunteer responders.
