Abstract
Methods for directly mapping attributes from controllers connected to a switch are provided. Multicast protocols are combined with policy management and applied to systems with multiple host and source devices. Unnecessary data packets are dropped, while only necessary data packets are forwarded. These methods decrease the amount of resources needed to process requests received during multicasting, provide enhanced security options, and further integrate networking solutions.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- accessing at least one attribute residing within a wireless controller (WC), wherein the WC is connected to a switch;
- facilitating communication between a source and a host, based on the at least one attribute;
- distinguishing packets necessary for the communication between the source and the host from packets unnecessary for the communication between the source and the host;
- directly exporting the at least one attribute to a multicast protocol and a policy manager;
- and
- removing the packets unnecessary for the communication between the source and the host.
3 more elements
A method, comprising:
- receiving a request from a host for access to resources within a group, wherein the request is including or excluding a source;
- determining whether the source is shared with the host, as per a plurality of databases residing within a plurality of wireless controllers;
- determining whether a request to join the group is received;
- associating a packet with the request;
- and
- dropping the packet if the packet is determined to be unnecessary for allowing access the resources within the group.
3 more elements
A method, comprising:
- updating a policy, wherein the policy works in conjunction with a multicast protocol communicatively connected to a switch and a plurality of wireless controllers;
- determining whether at least one device entry associated with the plurality of wireless controller exists;
- exporting attributes from the plurality of wireless controllers, in response to determining the at least one device entry exists;
- and
- limiting access to the multicast protocol, based on the exported attributes from the plurality of wireless controllers.
