A rank indication (RI) reporting apparatus, wherein the apparatus comprises:

• a transceiver, configured to receive at least two pieces of indication information, wherein each of the at least two pieces of indication information is used to indicate a maximum value of an RI that a network device associated with the indication information allows a terminal to report, and at least two network devices associated with the at least two pieces of indication information cooperate to provide a service for the terminal, wherein
• the transceiver is further configured to report RIs based on the at least two pieces of indication information.

An indication method, wherein the method comprises:

• generating at least two pieces of indication information, wherein each of the at least two pieces of indication information is used to indicate a maximum value of an RI that a network device associated with the indication information allows a terminal to report, and at least two network devices associated with the at least two pieces of indication information cooperate to provide a service for the terminal;
• and
• sending the at least two pieces of indication information.
