Abstract
A robot and an operation method may provide emotion-based services by recognizing emotion information of a video call counterpart based on data received during a video call, and may automatically generate a character expressing emotion of a video call counterpart, by generating an avatar character by mapping recognized emotion information to face information of the video call counterpart.
Claims20
A method of operating a robot, the method comprising:
- receiving data from a video call counterpart robot, the data including at least face information of a video call counterpart;
- recognizing emotion information of the video call counterpart based on the received data;
- generating an avatar character by mapping the recognized emotion information of the video call counterpart to the face information of the video call counterpart included in the received data;
- and
- displaying, on the display, the generated avatar character.

A robot comprising:
- a communication device configured to transmit and receive data with a video call counterpart robot, the received data is to include at least face information of a video call counterpart;
- a display configured to display an image based on data received from the video call counterpart robot;
- an audio output device configured to output a sound based on data received from the video call counterpart robot;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- recognize emotion information of the video call counterpart based on the received data,
- generate an avatar character by mapping the recognized emotion information of the video call counterpart to the face information of the video call counterpart included in the received data, and
- control the display to display the generated avatar character.

A method of operating a robot system that includes a robot, a video call counterpart robot and a server, the method comprising:
- receiving, at the robot, data from a video call counterpart robot;
- transmitting, by the robot, the data received from the video call counterpart robot to the server;
- determining, at the server, an emotion recognition result at least based on the data transmitted by the robot;
- and
- transmitting, by the server, the emotion recognition result to the robot.
