Composite aggregate architecture

A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions for performing a method, which when executed by a machine, causes the machine to:

• generate a storage aggregate as a single container constructed from first storage having first characteristics and second storage having second characteristics;
• provide a file system with access to the storage aggregate as the single container within which the file system stores data;
• and
• selectively store first data of the file system into the first storage based upon the first characteristics and second data of the file system into the second storage based upon the second characteristics.

A computing device comprising:

• a memory comprising machine executable code;
• and
• a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the machine executable code to cause the processor to:
• generate a storage aggregate as a single container constructed from first storage having first characteristics and second storage having second characteristics;
• provide a file system with access to the storage aggregate as the single container within which the file system stores data;
• and
• selectively store first data of the file system into the first storage based upon the first characteristics and second data of the file system into the second storage based upon the second characteristics.
