Abstract
A cutter for roll-dispensed stock is provided. The cutter has a retracted blade that can be actuated by depressing a button to move the blade to an extended position for cutting roll-dispensed stock.
Claims25
A roll-dispensed stock cutter, comprising:
- a base having a receptacle with a bottom surface and channels configured to slidably engage a slot in a roll-dispensed stock container;
- a spring button having a first half and a second half, each of the first and second halves being identically formed and each having a leaf spring, the spring button positioned in the receptacle of the base, and the leaf springs biasing the spring button away from the base;
- a blade fixed between recesses in the first and second halves of the spring button, the recesses sized and shaped to receive the blade and to restrain movement of the blade relative to the spring button;
- the spring button having a first position with the blade retracted within the base;
- the spring button having a second position with the blade extended through a blade aperture in the base when the spring button is depressed.

A roll-dispensed stock cutter, comprising:
- a base having channels configured to slidably engage a slot in a roll-dispensed stock container;
- a button positioned within the base;
- a means for biasing the button away from the base;
- a blade fixed to the button;
- the button having a first position where the blade is retracted within the base;
- the button having a second position where the blade is extended through the base;
- the button movable from the first position to the second position when the button is depressed;
- and
- the button automatically returning to the first position when the button is released.
6 more elements
A method for dispensing roll-dispensed stock from a container, comprising:
- opening a lid of the container to expose the roll-dispensed stock positioned therein;
- drawing a portion of the roll-dispensed stock out of the container;
- closing the lid of the container over the portion of roll-dispensed stock, the lid including an elongated slot along a length thereof and a cutter assembly slidably engaged therewith, the cutter assembly including a blade and a button biasing the blade away from the roll-dispensed stock;
- pressing the button to move the blade from a retracted position to a deployed position;
- sliding the cutter assembly along a length of the container from a first end to a second end while continuously pressing the button to maintain the blade in a deployed position to cut a portion of the roll-dispensed stock;
- and
- releasing the pressure from the button after the roll-dispensed stock is cut to allow the blade to automatically return to the retracted position.
