## Abstract

A fume hood adapted to be connected to an exhaust system has a ventilated chamber with a rear wall, opposite side walls, a ceiling, a floor, and an access opening. A baffle assembly is located in front of the rear wall and includes a lower panel and an upper panel. The lower panel has opposite side edges extending between the chamber side walls, a lower edge spaced apart from the chamber floor, and a plurality of air-exit apertures. The upper panel has opposite side edges extending between the chamber side walls, a lower edge attached to an upper portion of the lower panel, an opposite upper edge attached to the chamber ceiling, and a plurality of air-exit apertures. An elongated grating covers a gap between the lower panel lower edge and the chamber floor and includes a plurality of air-exit apertures.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A fume hood adapted to be connected to an exhaust system, the fume hood comprising:
a ventilated chamber having a rear wall, opposite side walls, a ceiling, a floor and an access opening; and
a baffle assembly located in front of the rear wall, the baffle assembly comprising:
a lower panel having opposite side edges extending between the chamber side walls and a lower edge spaced apart from the chamber floor, and wherein a plurality of air-exit apertures are formed within the lower panel; and
an upper panel having opposite side edges extending between the chamber side walls, a lower edge attached to an upper portion of the lower panel, an opposite upper edge attached to the chamber ceiling, and wherein a plurality of air-exit apertures are formed within the upper panel.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, wherein the upper and lower panels are generally rectangular.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, further comprising an elongated grating covering a gap between the lower panel lower edge and the chamber floor.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, wherein the side edges of the lower panel are attached to the respective chamber side walls.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, wherein the side edges of the upper panel are attached to the respective chamber side walls.

### Claim 6 (depends on 3)

The fume hood of claim 3, wherein the elongated grating comprises a plurality of air-exit apertures formed therein.

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The fume hood of claim 6, wherein the plurality of air-exit apertures in the grating are arranged in at least one row.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, wherein the plurality of air-exit apertures in the lower panel comprise a first plurality of air-exit apertures arranged in spaced apart relationship adjacent the lower panel upper edge, and a second plurality of air-exit apertures arranged in spaced apart relationship at a location between the lower panel upper edge and the lower panel lower edge.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, wherein the plurality of air-exit apertures in the upper panel are arranged in spaced apart relationship adjacent the upper panel upper edge.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, further comprising a vertically sliding sash at the access opening that is movable between raised and lowered positions.

### Claim 11 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, further comprising at least one horizontally sliding panel at the access opening that is configured to cover and uncover portions of the access opening.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The fume hood of claim 1, further comprising:
at least one horizontally sliding panel at the access opening that is configured to cover and uncover portions of the access opening; and
a vertically sliding sash at the access opening in front of the at least one horizontally sliding panel, wherein the vertically sliding sash is movable between raised and lowered positions.

### Claim 13

A fume hood adapted to be connected to an exhaust system, the fume hood comprising:
a ventilated chamber having a rear wall, opposite side walls, a ceiling, a floor and an access opening; and
a baffle assembly located in front of the rear wall, the baffle assembly comprising:
a generally rectangular lower panel having opposite side edges extending between the chamber side walls and a lower edge spaced apart from the chamber floor, and wherein a plurality of air-exit apertures are formed within the lower panel;
a generally rectangular upper panel having opposite side edges extending between the chamber side walls, a lower edge attached to an upper portion of the lower panel, an opposite upper edge attached to the chamber ceiling, and wherein a plurality of air-exit apertures are formed within the upper panel; and
an elongated grating covering a gap between the lower panel lower edge and the chamber floor, wherein the elongated grating comprises a plurality of air-exit apertures formed therein.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The fume hood of claim 13, wherein the side edges of the lower panel are attached to the respective chamber side walls.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The fume hood of claim 13, wherein the side edges of the upper panel are attached to the respective chamber side walls.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The fume hood of claim 13, wherein the plurality of air-exit apertures in the grating are arranged in at least one row.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The fume hood of claim 13, wherein the plurality of air-exit apertures in the lower panel comprise a first plurality of air-exit apertures arranged in spaced apart relationship adjacent the lower panel upper edge, and a second plurality of air-exit apertures arranged in spaced apart relationship at a location between the lower panel upper edge and the lower panel lower edge.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)
