Methods and apparatus for processing content based on viewing information and/or communicating content

A system comprising:

• a receiver configured to receive video corresponding to an event occurring in an environment;
• a first encoder configured to encode the received video to produce first encoded video corresponding to the environment, said first encoded video being in accordance with a first resolution allocation;
• a transmitter for transmitting at least some of the first encoded video to playback devices;
• wherein the receiver is further configured to receive, from the playback devices, viewing information indicating, on a per user basis, which portion of the environment a user was viewing at a given time during playback of the first encoded video;
• a prioritizor configured to determine, based on the received viewing information, relative importance of different portions of the environment at different times during playback of the video;
• and
• a second encoder for re-encoding the received video, after performing a resolution reduction operation on the received video, to control allocation of resolution to different portions of said environment based on the determined relative importance of different portions of the environment at different times, said re-encoding producing second encoded video in accordance with a second resolution allocation which is different from said first resolution allocation;
• and
• a storage device for storing the second encoded video in a storage device.
