Abstract
A camera is configured with multiple microphones to reduce wind noise in audio data collected by the camera. The camera receives motion data, which may comprise data indicating acceleration of the camera, a plurality of video frames received by the camera, or a background level of noise associated with one or more microphones configured on the camera. The camera determines a motion vector from the motion data. The motion vector is parallel to the direction of motion of the camera. The camera selects a subset of one or more microphones in the direction of the motion vector. By recording audio data using the one or more selected microphones, the camera reduces wind noise in the audio data.
Claims20
A camera, comprising:
- surfaces comprising:
- a first surface;
- and
- a second surface located on a different side of the camera than the first surface;
- microphones comprising:
- a first microphone located on the first surface;
- and
- a second microphone located on the second surface;
- and
- a sensor controller configured to:
- receive audio inputs from the first microphone and the second microphone simultaneously;
- select the first microphone or the second microphone based on the audio inputs so that one of the first and second microphones is a selected microphone;
- and
- record audio data from only the selected microphone.
A method comprising:
- monitoring microphones of a camera with a sensor controller, the microphones comprising:
- a first microphone located on a first surface of the camera;
- and
- a second microphone located on a second surface of the camera, wherein the first surface and the second surface are on different sides of the camera;
- receiving audio inputs from the first microphone and the second microphone simultaneously, wherein the audio inputs from the first microphone, the second microphone, or both include background noise;
- selecting the audio input from the first microphone or the second microphone;
- and
- capturing audio data using the audio input from the first microphone or the second microphone.
A method comprising:
- monitoring audio inputs of microphones of a camera;
- determining a level of background noise for each of the audio inputs;
- correlating the level of background noise for each of the audio inputs to a frequency range;
- selecting one of the microphones having audio inputs with a lowest sound intensity within a predetermined frequency range;
- and
- capturing audio data from the microphone selected.
