Abstract
Server cluster communication across the public internet using a single secure User Datagram Protocol (UDP) is facilitated by an intermediary registry server. The intermediary registry server enables servers within a cluster to identify and securely communicate with peer servers in the cluster across disparate locations and through firewalls Using an external address registry shared to each member of a server cluster peer group, individual servers can establish a direct secure channel using a single UDP tunnel.
Claims25
A machine implemented method, comprising:
- sending, by a server, a reporting message to an intermediary registry server using a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) channel wherein the reporting message is associated with a UDP external endpoint and a UDP internal endpoint;
- responding, by the intermediary register server through the UDP channel to the server, seeking confirmation of the UDP external endpoint of the server;
- receiving, by intermediary register server, confirmation of the UDP external endpoint of the server;
- and
- responsive to receiving confirmation from the server the UPD external endpoint of the server is active, recording, by the intermediary registry server, a server identification, the UDP external endpoint, and the UDP internal endpoint of the server in an external address registry.
A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions for performing a method, comprising machine executable code, which when executed by at least one machine, causes the machine to:
- send, by a server, a reporting message to an intermediary registry server using a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port wherein the reporting message is associated with a UDP external endpoint and a UDP internal endpoint;
- respond, by the intermediary register server through the UDP channel to the server, seeking confirmation of the UDP external endpoint of the server;
- receive, by intermediary register server, confirmation of the UDP external endpoint of the server;
- and
- responsive to receiving confirmation from the server the UPD external endpoint of the server is active, record, by the intermediary registry server, a server identification, the UDP external endpoint and the UDP internal endpoint of the server in an external address registry.
A computer system for communication between servers within a cluster of servers over a public wide area network, the computer system comprising:
- a machine capable of executing instructions embodied as software;
- and
- a plurality of software portions resident on a non-transitory storage media, wherein one of said software portions is configured to
- send, by a server, a reporting message to an intermediary registry server using a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port wherein the reporting message is associated with a UDP external endpoint and a UDP internal endpoint,
- respond, by the intermediary register server through the UDP channel to the server, seeking confirmation of the UDP external endpoint of the server,
- receive, by intermediary register server, confirmation of the UDP external endpoint of the server, and
- responsive to receiving confirmation from the server the UPD external endpoint of the server is active, record, by the intermediary registry server, a server identification, the UDP external endpoint and the UDP internal endpoint of the server in an external address registry.
