Abstract
According to one embodiment, there is provided a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode including a negative electrode active material layer, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The negative electrode active material layer contains carbon dioxide and releases the carbon dioxide in the range of 0.1 ml to 5 ml per 1 g when heated at 200° C. for 1 minute.

A negative electrode comprising a negative electrode active material layer, wherein the negative electrode active material layer comprises:
- physically adsorbed carbon dioxide in the range of 0.1 ml to 5 ml per 1 g of the negative electrode active material layer;
- and
- lithium carbonate,
- the physically adsorbed carbon dioxide and the lithium carbonate existing in such a form that in pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry for the negative electrode active material layer under a temperature rising condition of 5° C./minute, two peaks appear in the range of 120° C. to 350° C., where a ratio (a/b) of an intensity a of a low temperature side peak of the two peaks to an intensity b of a high temperature side peak of the two peaks is 1 or more.
