Application upgrading through sharing dependencies

A device comprising:

• a memory storage comprising instructions;
• and
• one or more processors in communication with the memory storage, wherein the one or more processors execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:
• generating a template directory structure corresponding to a disk image of a running application;
• mapping a root file system and application dependencies of the running application to the template directory structure;
• provisioning revised application code of the running application within an upgraded application container in the template directory structure;
• check-pointing the running application to determine state information;
• and
• activating the upgraded application container with the revised application code based on a deactivation of the running application, the activating using the state information of the running application determined prior to the deactivation, and using the mapped root file system, and the mapped application dependencies.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions for upgrading a running application, that when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

• generating a template directory structure corresponding to a disk image of the running application;
• mapping a root file system and application dependencies of the running application to the template directory structure;
• provisioning revised application code of the running application within an upgraded application container in the template directory structure;
• check-pointing the running application to determine state information;
• and
• activating the upgraded application container with the revised application code based on a deactivation of the running application, the activating using the state information of the running application determined prior to the deactivation, the mapped root file system, and the mapped application dependencies.
