System for detecting and confirming a touch input

A method comprising:

• reading a first capacitance value from a first capacitive sense electrode in a capacitive sense array of a capacitive touch sensor proximal a first location on a touch sensor surface at a first time;
• and
• reading a first pressure value from a first pressure sense electrode in a pressure sense array of a pressure sensor coupled to the capacitive touch sensor, the first pressure sense electrode proximal the first location on the touch sensor surface at approximately the first time;
• and
• in response to the first pressure value exceeding a first pressure threshold:
• detecting presence of a first pressure input applied to the touch sensor surface proximal the first location at approximately the first time;
• in response to the first capacitance value falling outside a first threshold range of capacitance values, detecting an error event in a first region of the capacitive touch sensor, the first region containing the first location;
• in response to detecting the error event in the capacitive touch sensor:
• decreasing a first weight assigned to capacitive inputs detected within the first region by the capacitive touch sensor;
• and
• increasing a second weight assigned to pressure inputs detected proximal the first region by the pressure sensor;
• and
• merging the first capacitive input according to the first weight and the first pressure input according to the second weight into a first touch input proximal the first location on the touch sensor surface;
• and
• generating a first touch image representing the first touch input proximal the first location.
