Device and method for monitoring the movement of an elevator door using rfid

Elevator door monitoring system for monitoring movement of an elevator door (6, 16), the elevator door monitoring system comprising:

• an elevator door detector (30) comprising:
• an RFID tag (32) configured for being attached to a first element (16a, 26a) of the elevator door (6, 16);
• and
• an RFID sensor (34) configured for being attached to a second element (16b, 26b) of the elevator door (6, 16), wherein the second element (16b, 26b) is movable with respect to the first element (16a, 26a);
• wherein the elevator door detector (30) is configured for detecting a distance between the first and second elements (16a, 26a, 16b, 26b) of the elevator door (6, 16) and for supplying a corresponding detection signal;
• and
• wherein the elevator door monitoring system further comprises an evaluator (17) configured for receiving detection signals supplied by the elevator door detector (30) and for evaluating the received detection signals for detecting potential malfunctions of the elevator door (6, 16).
