Abstract

A peptide has the formula (I) R1—Wm—Xn-AA1-AA2-AA3-Yp—Zq—R2, where AA1 is Tyr or Trp, AA2 is Val, Ile, Leu or Met, AA3 is Tyr, Phe or Trp, W, X, Y and Z are amino acids, m, n, p and q are each 0 or 1, and m+n+p+q is less than or equal to 2. R1 is H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or R5—CO—. R5 is H, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclyl or heteroarylalkyl. R2 is —NR3R4, —OR3, or —SR3. R3 and R4 are each H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl, or aralkyl. R1 and R2 are not amino acids. Cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions may include the peptide. It find use in reduction of lipid accumulation in the skin, treatment of cellulite, and treatment of symptoms of skin aging.

A compound of formula (I):

R1—Wm—Xn-AA1-AA2-AA3-Yp—Zq—R2 (I),
its stereoisomers and/or its cosmetically or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, wherein:
AA1 is selected from the group consisting of Tyr and Trp;
AA2 is selected from the group consisting of Val, Ile, Leu and;
AA3 is selected from the group consisting of Tyr, Phe and Trp;
W, X, Y and Z are each independently an amino acid;
m, n, p and q are each independently 0 or 1;
m+n+p+q is less than or equal to 2;
R1 is selected from the group consisting of H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl, aralkyl and R5—CO—, wherein R5 is selected from the group consisting of H, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclyl and heteroarylalkyl;
R2 is selected from the group consisting of —NR3R4, —OR3, and —SR3, wherein R3 and R4 are independently selected from a group consisting of H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl and aralkyl;
wherein when AA2 is Leu, AA1 is Tyr, and AA3 is Tyr;
and
R1 and R2 are not amino acids.

A method of treatment and/or care of the skin, hair, nails and/or mucous membranes of a subject comprising administering, to the skin, hair, nails and/or mucous membranes of the subject, an effective amount of a compound R1—Wm—Xn-AA1-AA2-AA3-Yp—Zq—R2 (I), its stereoisomers and/or its cosmetically or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, or a composition containing the compound, its stereoisomers and/or its cosmetically or pharmaceutically acceptable salts, wherein:

AA1 is selected from the group consisting of Tyr and Trp;
AA2 is selected from the group consisting of Val, Ile, Leu, and Met;
AA3 is selected from the group consisting of Tyr, Phe and Trp;
W, X, Y and Z are each independently an amino acid;
m, n, p and q are each independently 0 or 1;
m+n+p+q is less than or equal to 2;
R1 is selected from the group consisting of H, a polymer derived from polyethylene glycol, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, heterocyclyl, heteroarylalkyl, aryl, aralkyl and R5—CO—, wherein R5 is selected from the group consisting of H, a non-cyclic aliphatic group, alicyclyl, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclyl and heteroarylalkyl;

and
