Abstract
Systems and methods for monitoring a range of motion of a joint are described. For example, in one embodiment, a first set of sensors may sense accelerations of a first body portion located on a first side of the joint and a second set of sensors may sense accelerations of the second body portion located on a second opposing side of the joint. The acceleration data may then be used to compute the relative motion of the first and second body portions to determine movement of the joint. This joint movement may then be used to determine one or more range of motion movement metrics which are output for viewing by a subject or medical practitioner.

A method comprising:
- determining a movement metric for a joint of a subject;
- determining a difference between the determined movement metric and a standard movement metric;
- determining if intervention is needed for the subject based at least in part on the difference between the determined movement metric and the standard movement metric;
- and
- outputting an indication of whether or not intervention for the subject is needed.
A method comprising
- sensing movement of a first body portion associated with a first side of a joint and a second body portion associated with a second side of the joint;
- determining movement of the first body portion relative to the second body portion, wherein above a threshold angular velocity the relative movement is determined primarily with a first sensed movement parameter of the first and second body portions, and wherein below the threshold angular velocity the relative movement is determined primarily with a second sensed movement parameter of the first and second body portions.
A method comprising
- sensing movement of a first body portion associated with a first side of a joint to create a first data set;
- sensing movement of a second body portion associated with a second side of a joint to create a second data set;
- distinguishing portions of the first and second data sets corresponding to static events of the first and second body portions and events when at least one sensor associated with the first and/or second body portions have been removed from the first and/or second body portions;
- and
- truncating the first and second data sets to remove the portions of the first and second data sets corresponding to events when the sensors have been removed.
