Abstract
A cleaning apparatus engageable with a vacuum source is provided. The vacuum source can be used to draw fluid through an interior space of a housing of the cleaning apparatus through an inlet tube so that debris entrained in the fluid collects in a debris collection zone upstream of a downstream opening in the inlet tube. Methods of using the cleaning apparatus are provided.
Claims31
A cleaning apparatus for attachment to a vacuum source, the cleaning apparatus comprising:
- a housing defining an interior space and being engageable with the vacuum source to draw fluid through the interior space in a downstream direction, the fluid comprising both air and debris;
- a filter provided in a downstream portion of the housing and engaged with the housing so that the air exiting the interior space must pass through the filter;
- and
- an inlet tube engaged with the housing and spaced apart from the filter in the upstream direction.

A cleaning apparatus for attachment to a vacuum source, the cleaning apparatus comprising:
- a housing defining an interior space and being engageable with the vacuum source at a downstream end of the housing to draw fluid through the interior space, the fluid comprising air and debris;
- a filter provided in a downstream portion of the housing and engaged with the housing so that the air exiting the interior space must pass through the filter;
- an inlet tube engaged with the housing and spaced apart from the filter in the upstream direction;
- and
- a suction attachment engageable with the upstream end of the housing, the suction attachment having a contact base for contacting a surface to be vacuumed;
- the housing and the suction attachment being sealingly engageable to be placed in fluid communication with one another.

A method of operating a cleaning apparatus engageable with a vacuum source, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a negative pressure at a downstream end of a housing of the cleaning apparatus using the vacuum source;
- using the pressure differential created by the vacuum source, drawing fluid through a fluid pathway defined by an inlet tube provided at an upstream end of the housing into an interior space of the housing, wherein optionally that the fluid pathway causes the fluid to experience a Venturi effect;
- and
- drawing air exiting the housing through a filter positioned downstream of the inlet tube.
