Abstract
A method and a system for transparently overlaying a logical transport network over an existing physical transport network is disclosed. The system designates a virtual channel located in a first transaction layer of a network conforming to a first network protocol. The system assembles a transaction layer packet in a second logical transaction layer of a second network protocol that is also recognizable by the first transaction layer. The system transfers the transaction layer packet from the second transaction layer to the virtual channel. The system transmits the transaction layer packet over the first transaction layer using the designated virtual channel over the network.
Claims20
A method of transparently overlaying a logical transaction network over an existing physical transport network, comprising:
- designating a virtual channel located in a first transaction layer of a network conforming to a first network protocol;
- assembling a transaction layer packet in a second logical transaction layer of the second network protocol, wherein a data link layer conforming to the first network protocol is configured as an intermediate stage between the first logical transaction layer and the second logical transaction layer;
- transferring the transaction layer packet from the second transaction layer to the virtual channel;
- and
- transmitting the transaction layer packet over the first transaction layer using the virtual channel over the network.
A method of transparently overlaying a logical transaction network over an existing physical transport network, comprising:
- receiving a transaction layer packet located in a first transaction layer of a network conforming to a first network protocol;
- extracting the transaction layer packet from a virtual channel located in the first transaction layer that is designated for use by a second logical transaction layer that conforms to a second network protocol;
- assembling a transaction layer packet that conforms to the second network protocol recognizable to the second logical transaction layer, wherein a data link layer conforming to the first network protocol is configured as an intermediate stage between the first logical transaction layer and the second logical transaction layer;
- and
- transferring the transaction layer packet from the virtual channel to the second transaction layer.
A system that transparently overlays a logical transaction network over an existing physical transport network, comprising:
- a computer processor;
- and
- a memory coupled to the computer processor, the computer processor configured to execute code located in the memory for:
- designating a virtual channel located in a first transaction layer of a network conforming to a first network protocol;
- assembling a transaction layer packet in a second logical transaction layer of a second network protocol, wherein a data link layer conforming to the first network protocol is configured as an intermediate stage between the first logical transaction layer and the second logical transaction layer;
- transferring the transaction layer packet from the second transaction layer to the virtual channel;
- and
- transmitting the transaction layer packet over the first transaction layer using the virtual channel over the network.
