Abstract
Embodiments described herein may be directed towards a male and female gasket coupling for securing adjacent window frames. In accordance with the present disclosure, the male gasket may comprise a head portion that creates a seal inside a cavity of the female gasket. The female gasket may further be enabled to collapse on itself as it engages a surface of the male gasket. The seal may be maintained when the male and female gaskets move toward each other or when the male and female gaskets move away from each other due to fluctuations in temperature.
Claims20
A coupling system comprising:
- a male gasket comprising:
- a proximal male end;
- and
- a distal male end comprising a seal portion and a head portion;
- and
- a female gasket comprising:
- a proximal female end;
- and
- a distal female end comprising a first cavity into which the head portion is received, thereby providing a seal, wherein:
- when the male and female gaskets move toward each other, the distal female end collapses on itself and engages the seal portion of the male gasket, thereby maintaining the seal;
- and
- when the male and female gaskets move away from each other, at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the head portion engages an inner surface of the distal female end, thereby maintaining the seal;
- and wherein:
- the proximal male end operatively couples with a first window frame jamb, wherein the first window frame jamb comprises a first extrusion extending outwardly from an outer surface of the first window frame jamb, wherein the first extrusion defines a second cavity into which the proximal male end is received, and wherein at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the proximal male end engages at least one ridge disposed on an inner surface of the second cavity, and
- the proximal female end operatively couples with a second window frame jamb, wherein the second window frame jamb comprises a second extrusion extending outwardly from an outer surface of the second window frame jamb, wherein the second extrusion comprises a third cavity into which the proximal female end is received, and wherein at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the proximal female end engages at least one ridge disposed on an inner surface of the third cavity.

A coupling system comprising:
- a first male gasket comprising:
- a first proximal male end;
- and
- a first distal male end comprising a first seal portion and a first head portion;
- a first female gasket comprising:
- a first proximal female end;
- and
- a first distal female end comprising a first cavity into which the first head portion is received, thereby providing a first seal;
- a second male gasket comprising:
- a second proximal male end;
- and
- a second distal male end comprising a second seal portion and a second head portion;
- and
- a second female gasket comprising:
- a second proximal female end;
- and
- a second distal female end comprising a second cavity into which the second head portion is received, thereby providing a second seal, wherein:
- when the first male and female gaskets move toward each other, the first distal female end collapses on itself and engages the first seal portion, thereby maintaining the first seal,
- when the first male and female gaskets move away from each other, at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the first head portion engages an inner surface of the first distal female end, thereby maintaining the first seal,
- when the second male and second female gaskets move toward each other, the second distal female end collapses on itself and engages the second seal portion of the second male gasket, thereby maintaining the second seal, and
- when the second male and the second female gaskets move away from each other, at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the second head portion engages an inner surface of the second distal female end, thereby maintaining the second seal, and wherein:
- the first proximal male end operatively couples with a first window frame jamb, wherein the first window frame jamb comprises a first extrusion extending outwardly from an outer surface of the first window frame jamb, wherein the first extrusion defines a second cavity into which the first proximal male end is received, and wherein at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the first proximal male end engages at least one ridge disposed on an inner surface of the second cavity, and
- the first proximal female end operatively couples with a second window frame jamb, wherein the second window frame jamb comprises a second extrusion extending outwardly from an outer surface of the second window frame jamb, wherein the second extrusion comprises a third cavity into which the first proximal female end is received, and wherein at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the first proximal female end engages at least one ridge disposed on an inner surface of the third cavity.
A window frame comprising at least one of:

- a proximal female end;
- and
- a first distal female end comprising a first cavity into which the head portion is received, thereby providing a first seal, wherein:
- when the male and female gaskets move toward each other, the first distal female end collapses on itself and engages the seal portion, thereby maintaining the seal;
- and
- when the male and female gaskets move away from each other, at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the head portion engages an inner surface of the first distal female end, thereby maintaining the seal, and wherein:
- the proximal male end operatively couples with a first window frame jamb, wherein the first window frame jamb comprises a first extrusion extending outwardly from an outer surface of the first window frame jamb, wherein the first extrusion defines a second cavity into which the proximal male end is received, and wherein at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the proximal male end engages at least one ridge disposed on an inner surface of the second cavity;
- the proximal female end operatively couples with a second window frame jamb, wherein the second window frame jamb comprises a second extrusion extending outwardly from an outer surface of the second window frame jamb, wherein the second extrusion comprises a third cavity into which the proximal female end is received, and wherein at least one rib disposed on an outer surface of the proximal female end engages at least one ridge disposed on an inner surface of the third cavity;
- the proximal male end further comprises an male anchor that engages a ridge disposed on the inner surface of the second cavity, thereby securing the male gasket to the first window frame jamb;
- the proximal female end further comprises a female anchor that engages a ridge disposed on the inner surface of the third cavity, thereby securing the female gasket to the second window frame jamb;
