Abstract
A wireless device may perform a plurality of scans to search for an available wireless network. The wireless device may determine a first set of information about a first environment in which the wireless device is located at a first time. The wireless device may also determine a second set of information about a second environment in which the wireless device is located at a second time. The wireless device may perform a comparison of the first set of information and the second set of information and adjust a time period between successive scans based on the comparison.
Claims20
A wireless device, comprising:
- a wireless radio;
- a processor;
- memory in electronic communication with the processor;
- and
- instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to:
- cause the wireless radio to perform a plurality of scans to search for an available wireless network;
- determine a first set of information about a first environment in which the wireless device is located at a first time;
- determine a second set of information about a second environment in which the wireless device is located at a second time;
- perform a comparison of the first set of information and the second set of information;
- and
- adjust a time period between successive scans based on the comparison.
A method for adaptive backoff, the method being implemented by a wireless device, the method comprising:
- performing a plurality of scans to search for an available wireless network;
- determining a first set of information about a first environment in which the wireless device is located at a first time;
- determining a second set of information about a second environment in which the wireless device is located at a second time;
- performing a comparison of the first set of information and the second set of information;
- and
- adjusting a time period between successive scans based on the comparison.
A wireless device, comprising:
- a wireless radio;
- a processor;
- memory in electronic communication with the processor;
- and
- instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to:
- cause the wireless radio to perform a plurality of scans to search for an available wireless network to which the wireless device is not already connected;
- determine information about an environment in which the wireless device is located during a time interval;
- make an inference, based on the information, about whether the wireless device has moved during the time interval;
- and
- adjust a time period between successive scans based on the inference.
