Abstract
A network device receives, from a base station included in a network, location information associated with a user equipment included in the network. The network device determines, based on the location information, a cell type associated with a cell that is associated with the base station. The network device transmits, based on determining the cell type, a notification to a second network device included in the network, where the second network device, based on receiving the notification, determines a policy rule associated with the cell type, and where the second network device transmits the policy rule.
Claims22
A network device, comprising:
- one or more memories;
- and
- one or more processors, communicatively coupled to the one or more memories, to:
- receive location information associated with a user equipment included in a network,
- the location information comprising a next generation cell identifier (NCI) that includes data identifying a cell associated with the user equipment and a base station associated with the cell;
- determine, based on the location information, a cell type associated with the cell;
- and
- transmit, based on determining the cell type, a notification to a second network device included in the network,
- wherein the notification includes data that causes a policy rule to be applied to a communications session associated with the user equipment.

(canceled)
A method, comprising:
- receiving, at a network device, location information associated with a user equipment included in a network,
- the location information comprising a next generation cell identifier (NCI) that includes data identifying a cell associated with the user equipment and a base station associated with the cell;
- determining, by the network device and based on the location information, a cell type associated with the cell;
- determining, by the network device and based on determining the cell type, a presence reporting area identifier associated with the cell type;
- and
- transmitting, by the network device and based on determining the presence reporting area identifier, a presence reporting area notification to a second network device included in the network,
- wherein the presence reporting area notification includes data that causes a policy rule to be applied to a communications session associated with the user equipment.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions, the instructions comprising:
- one or more instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a network device, cause the one or more processors to:
- receive location information associated with a user equipment included in a network,
- wherein the location information comprises a next generation cell identifier (NCI) that includes data identifying a first cell associated with the user equipment, a second cell associated with the user equipment, a first base station associated with the first cell, and a second base station associated with the second cell, and
- wherein the location information is received based on a handover of the user equipment between the first cell and the second cell;
- determine, based on the location information, a cell type associated with the first cell;
- determine, based on determining the cell type, a presence reporting area identifier associated with the cell type;
- and
- transmit, based on determining the presence reporting area identifier, a presence reporting area notification to a second network device included in the network,
- wherein the presence reporting area notification includes information identifying the presence reporting area identifier, and
- wherein the presence reporting area notification includes data that causes the second network device to apply a policy rule to a communications session associated with the user equipment.
