Abstract
The present invention concerns a structure or device comprising a rare earth nitride material, and a removable capping for passivating the rare earth nitride material.
Claims21
1-29. (canceled)
Device comprising:
- a rare earth nitride material, and
- a removable capping for passivating the rare earth nitride material,
- wherein the removable passivating capping includes or consists of samarium, europium, thulium, antimony, bismuth, zinc, arsenic, silver, strontium, cadmium, calcium, lead, sodium, or tellurium;
- or consists solely of indium.

Device comprising:
- a rare earth nitride material, and
- a removable capping for passivating the rare earth nitride material,
- wherein the capping is a metal-based capping removable by evaporation or sublimation under vacuum at a temperature below 600° C. and above 200° C. at a pressure of 1×10−4 Torr or 1.33×10−2 Pa.
Method for removing a capping for passivating a rare earth nitride material, the method including the steps of:
- providing a structure or device comprising a rare earth nitride material and a removable capping for passivating the rare earth nitride material;
- the capping being removable without modification of the electrical and/or optical characteristics of the rare-earth nitride material;
- and
- removing the capping by evaporation or sublimation under a vacuum.
