Verifying character sets in domain name requests

A system comprising at least one processor executing instructions causing a server computer, coupled to a network, to:

• query a database coupled to the network to create a domain name character data table comprising a plurality of characters, and a first Boolean value for each of the plurality of characters;
• access a domain name system (DNS) server to retrieve a plurality of registered domain names comprising a top level domain (TLD);
• for each character in each of the plurality of registered domain names, update, within the domain name character data table, the first Boolean value to a second Boolean value;
• decode a transmission comprising a token and the TLD, and received from a domain request user interface control displayed on a client computer coupled to the network;
• generate a list of candidate domain names, using the token and the TLD;
• for each domain name in the list of candidate domain names:
• query the database to determine if at least one character in the domain name comprises the first Boolean value in the domain name character data table;
• and
• responsive to a determination that the at least one character comprises the first Boolean value in the domain name character data table, remove the domain name from the list of candidate domain names.
