Abstract
A system includes a surface having a demarcated area and discrete areas disposed on the surface. The discrete areas may each be configured to receive user input. At least a portion of the discrete areas overlap the demarcated area. The system further includes a sensing layer disposed underneath the surface. The sensing layer may be configured to sense force applied to the surface in response to the user input.
Claims1
A system, comprising:
- a memory;
- a processor operatively coupled to the memory;
- a pressable surface having a demarcated area and when in a first mode, the pressable surface showing a plurality of discrete keys disposed along the pressable surface, the plurality of discrete keys being configured to receive user input, wherein at least a portion of the plurality of discrete keys overlap the demarcated area;
- and
- a first sensing layer disposed underneath the pressable surface and operatively coupled to the processor, the first sensing layer being configured to sense force applied to the pressable surface,
- wherein the processor is configured to:
- identify a first force input from the first sensing layer that corresponds to one of the plurality of discrete keys, and
- identify, from the first sensing layer, a second force input applied to the demarcated area that corresponds to a first function that corresponds to a second mode.
