Abstract
An incident recorder records original and supplemental incident information using a simplified user interface. A lead incident recorder may request any of several support tasks be accepted by other subsystems configured to Follow. Tactical support tasks may be requested. Communication support tasks may be requested. Collection support tasks may be requested. Collection support tasks may include directives for operation of an incident recorder.
Claims21
A system for storing and communicating data related to an incident using multiple incident recorders, the system comprising:
- a first incident recorder configured to be worn by an officer, including:
- a first video camera;
- a first pre-event buffer;
- a first memory;
- a first user-operated control;
- a first rechargeable battery;
- and
- a first short range wireless transceiver, wherein the first incident recorder is configured to:
- capture first video information from the first video camera into the first pre-event buffer for a first period of time before overwriting information previously recorded in the first pre-event buffer, the first information captured prior to a first operation of the first user-operated control;
- capture second video information about the incident from the first video camera upon the first operation of the first user-operated control and store the second video information in the first memory;
- record a mark in a video stream of the second video information upon a second operation of the first user-operated control while the second video information is being captured from the first video camera, the mark indicating a time during the capture of the second video information at which the first user-operated control was operated;
- discontinue capture of the second video information and capture third video information from the first video camera in the first pre-event buffer upon third operation of the first user-operated control while the second video information is being captured;
- transmit a recording support request via the first short range wireless transceiver while at the incident;
- and
- transmit a new incident identifier via the first short range wireless transceiver;
- and
- a second incident recorder configured to record the incident, including:
- a second video camera;
- a second pre-event buffer;
- a second memory;
- and
- a second short range wireless transceiver, wherein the second incident recorder is configured to:
- capture fourth video information from the second video camera into the second pre-event buffer for a second period of time before overwriting information previously recorded in the second pre-event buffer;
- capture fifth video information about the incident from the second video camera and store the second information in the second memory;
- receive the recording support request via the second short range wireless transceiver while at the incident;
- receive the new incident identifier via the second short range wireless transceiver;
- and
- associate the new incident identifier with the incident.
An incident recorder configured to be worn by an officer for storing and communicating data related to a current or next incident, comprising:
- a video camera;
- a pre-event buffer;
- a rechargeable battery;
- a user-operated control;
- a memory;
- and
- a short range wireless transceiver, wherein the incident recorder is configured to:
- capture first video information from the video camera into the pre-event buffer for a period of time before overwriting information previously recorded in the pre-event buffer, the first information captured prior to a first operation of the user-operated control;
- capture second video information about the incident from the video camera upon the first operation of the user-operated control and store the second information in the memory;
- record a mark in a video stream of the second video information upon a second operation of the user-operated control while the second video information is being captured in the memory, the mark indicating a time during the capture of the second video information at which the user-operated control was operated;
- discontinue capture of the second video information and capture third video information from the video camera in the pre-event buffer upon third operation of the user-operated control while the second video information is being captured;
- receive battery charging currents for the rechargeable battery from a dock;
- receive a recording support request from another incident recorder at the incident via the short range wireless transceiver;
- receive a new incident identifier from the other incident recorder at the incident via the short range wireless transceiver;
- associate the new incident identifier with the incident;
- notify an operator of the incident recorder of the received recording support request;
- and
- transmit a beacon of identification via the short range wireless transceiver.
A computer-implemented method performed by an incident recorder for storing and communicating data related to a current or next incident, the method comprising:
- capturing first video information from a video camera of the incident recorder into a pre-event buffer of the incident recorder for a period of time before overwriting information previously recorded in the pre-event buffer, the first video information captured prior to a first operation of a user-operated control of the incident recorder;
- capturing second video information about the incident from the video camera upon the first operation of the user-operated control and store the second information in a memory of the incident recorder;
- recording a mark in a video stream of the second video information upon a second operation of the user-operated control while the second video information is being captured in the memory, the mark indicating a time during the capture of the second video information at which the second user-operated control was operated;
- discontinuing capture of the second video information and capturing third video information from the video camera in the pre-event buffer upon third operation of the user-operated control while the second video information is being captured;
- receiving a recording support request from another incident recorder at the incident via a short range wireless transceiver of the incident recorder;
- receiving a new incident identifier from the other incident recorder at the incident via the second short range wireless transceiver;
- associate the new incident identifier with the incident;
- and
- notify an operator of the incident recorder of the received recording support request, wherein the recording support request includes a request to record the incident and the incident recorder is configured to be worn by a law enforcement officer at the incident.
