Abstract
An apparatus for performing a medical procedure is disclosed. The apparatus includes a sensor adapted to convert an ultrasonic signal incident thereon into an electrical signal; and a wireless transceiver configured to receive the electrical signal from the sensor, and to transmit the electrical signal to a wireless receiver remotely located from the apparatus.
Claims18
An apparatus for performing a medical procedure, comprising:
- a sensor adapted to convert and ultrasonic signal incident thereon into an electrical signal, wherein the sensor is disposed at an end of the apparatus;
- a wireless transceiver configured to receive the electrical signal from the sensor, and to transmit the electrical signal to a wireless receiver remotely located from the apparatus, wherein the wireless transceiver is adapted to receive a trigger signal from a control unit remotely located from the apparatus, the trigger signal being sent to the apparatus;
- and
- a processor adapted to determine at least some of the data needed to determine a position of the sensor relative to a coordinate system of an image of a frame based on a time of receipt of the trigger signal, and a time of incidence of the ultrasonic signal, wherein the wireless transceiver is adapted to transmit the position of the sensor to the remotely located receiver.

An ultrasound system, comprising:
- an ultrasound probe adapted to sonify a region of interest;
- an apparatus configured to perform a medical procedure, the apparatus comprising:
- a sensor adapted to convert and ultrasonic signal incident thereon into an electrical signal;
- and a first wireless transceiver configured to transmit the electrical signal;
- and
- a control unit comprising:
- a clock configured to generate a clock signal, and the control unit is adapted to provide a trigger signal to the second wireless transceiver, wherein the second wireless transceiver provides the trigger signal to the first wireless transceiver, wherein the trigger signal is a frame trigger signal, and the clock is further configured to provide a line trigger signal, the control unit being configured to provide the frame trigger signal and the line trigger signal to the second wireless transceiver, which provides the frame trigger signal and the line trigger signal to the first wireless transceiver, the control unit being remotely located from the ultrasound probe and the apparatus, the control unit being adapted to provide an image from the ultrasound probe, the control unit comprising:
- a second wireless transceiver configured to receive the electrical signal from the first wireless transceiver;
- and a processor adapted overlay a position of the apparatus on the image;
- and
- a processor adapted to determine at least some of the data needed to determine a position of the sensor relative to a coordinate system of an image of a frame.
