Electronic Device Having a Composite Structure

An electronic device, comprising:

• an enclosure including a substantially planar sheet of aluminum that defines an exterior surface of the enclosure and an interior surface opposite the exterior surface;
• a steel fastener, the steel fastener comprising an aperture defining portion and a substantially planar coupling portion affixed to the interior surface along a bonding region between the substantially planar coupling portion and the interior surface;
• and
• a substantially planar blended melt layer disposed between the substantially planar coupling portion and the substantially planar sheet of aluminum in the bonding region, the substantially planar blended melt layer comprising:
• an interstitial material that has a melting temperature less than that of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum or the steel fastener;
• and
• a blend of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum and the interstitial material.

An electronic device, comprising:

• an enclosure including a substantially planar sheet of aluminum that defines an exterior surface of the enclosure and an interior surface opposite the exterior surface;
• a steel threaded fastener affixed to the interior surface;
• a first layer formed of an interstitial material that has a melting temperature less than that of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum or the steel threaded fastener, the first layer positioned adjacent to the steel threaded fastener;
• and
• a second layer formed of a blend of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum and the interstitial material, the second layer positioned between the first layer and the substantially planar sheet of aluminum.

An electronic device, comprising:

• an enclosure including a substantially planar sheet of aluminum that defines an exterior surface of the enclosure and an interior surface opposite the exterior surface;
• a first steel threaded feature;
• a second steel threaded feature;
• a first layer formed of an interstitial material that has a melting temperature less than that of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum or the first steel threaded feature, the first layer positioned adjacent to the first steel threaded feature;
• a second layer formed of a blend of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum and the interstitial material, the second layer positioned between the first layer and the substantially planar sheet of aluminum;
• a third layer formed of the interstitial material positioned adjacent the second steel threaded feature;
• a fourth layer formed of the blend of the substantially planar sheet of aluminum and the interstitial material, the fourth layer positioned between the third layer and the substantially planar sheet of aluminum;
• a component;
• a first pin coupling the component to the first steel threaded feature;
• and
• a second pin coupling the component to the second steel threaded feature.
