Advanced radio resource management in next-gen multi-hop relaying cellular network

An apparatus of a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• one or more baseband processors to generate a first set of one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages to create a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) and RRC entity at a donor Fifth Generation evolved NodeB (DgNB), and to generate a second set of one or more RRC messages to create a radio link control (RLC) entity at a serving relay node (RN) to couple with the DgNB in a multi-hop relay network;
• and
• a memory to store the first set of one or more RRC messages or the second set of one or more RRC messages.

An apparatus of a relay node (RN), comprising:

• one or more baseband processors to process one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages from a user equipment (UE) to create a radio link control (RLC) entity to serve the UE, and to process packets transported between the UE and a donor Fifth Generation evolved NodeB (DgNB) in a multi-hop relay network;
• and
• a memory to store the one or more RRC messages.

A Fifth Generation (5G) donor evolved NodeB (DgNB), comprising:

• one or more baseband processors to decode one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages from a user equipment (UE) to create a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) and RRC entity, and to process packets transported between the UE and the DgNB via a relay node (RN) in a multi-hop relay network;
• and
• a memory to store the one or more RRC messages.

One or more non-transitory machine readable media having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by an apparatus of a user equipment (UE), result in:

• generating a first set of one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages to create a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) and RRC entity at a donor Fifth Generation evolved NodeB (DgNB) in a multi-hop relay network;
• and
• generating a second set of one or more RRC messages to create a radio link control (RLC) entity at a serving relay node (RN) to couple with the DgNB.

One or more non-transitory machine readable media having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by an apparatus of a relay node (RN), result in:

• processing one or more radio resource control (RRC) messages from a user equipment (UE) to create a radio link control (RLC) entity to serve the UE;
• and
• processing packets transported between the UE and a donor Fifth Generation evolved NodeB (DgNB) in a multi-hop relay network.
