Environmental Condition Detection

A method to be performed by a media playback system comprising one or more playback devices, the method comprising:

• receiving data indicating a response of a listening environment to audio output of the one or more playback devices as captured by one or more microphones;
• determining an input vector for a neural network, wherein determining the input vector comprises projecting a response vector that represents the response onto a principle component matrix representing variance caused by one or more environmental conditions;
• providing the determined input vector to the neural network, the neural network including an output layer comprising neurons that correspond to respective environmental conditions;
• detecting that the input vector caused one or more neurons of the neural network to fire such that the neural network indicates that one or more particular environmental conditions are present in the listening environment;
• and
• adjusting audio output of the one or more playback devices to at least partially offset the one or more particular environmental conditions.

A tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored therein instructions executable by one or more processors to cause a media playback system to perform functions comprising:

• receiving data indicating a response of a listening environment to audio output of one or more playback devices as captured by one or more microphones, wherein the media playback system comprises the one or more playback devices;
• determining an input vector for a neural network, wherein determining the input vector comprises projecting a response vector that represents the response onto a principle component matrix representing variance caused by one or more environmental conditions;
• providing the determined input vector to the neural network, the neural network including an output layer comprising neurons that correspond to respective environmental conditions;
• detecting that the input vector caused one or more neurons of the neural network to fire such that the neural network indicates that one or more particular environmental conditions are present in the listening environment;
• and
• adjusting audio output of the one or more playback devices to at least partially offset the one or more particular environmental conditions.
