Merchant-specific functionality services

A computer-implemented method to facilitate payments with closed loop financial accounts during proximity payment transactions, comprising by a user computing device:

• detecting a radio frequency field generated by a merchant computing device, a user operating the user computing device intending to complete a payment transaction;
• receiving a request to activate a proximity mobile application that corresponds to a proximity applet operating on the merchant computing device, the proximity applet interrupting a payment process for the payment transaction by initiating a non-Proximity Payment System Environment (non-PPSE) communication protocol with the user computing device;
• establishing a proximity communication channel between the merchant computing device and the user computing device using the non-PPSE communication protocol by completing a handshake initiated between the proximity applet and the proximity mobile application;
• receiving a merchant identifier from the merchant computing device using the non-PPSE communication protocol, wherein the merchant computing device continues with the payment process after transmission of the merchant identifier;
• determining that a closed loop financial account is available for use during the payment transaction based on the received merchant identifier;
• enabling the closed loop financial account for use during the payment transaction;
• receiving a payment request from the merchant computing device for the payment transaction;
• preparing a response to the payment request comprising account information for the enabled closed loop financial account;
• and
• transmitting the response to the merchant computing device for processing.

A computer-implemented method to facilitate payments with closed loop financial accounts during proximity payment transactions,

• comprising by a merchant computing device:
• generating a radio frequency field polling for a user computing device, a user operating the user computing device intending to complete a payment transaction;
• interrupting a payment process for the payment transaction by initiating a non-Proximity Payment System Environment (non-PPSE) communication protocol with the user computing device;
• requesting activation of a proximity mobile application that corresponds to a proximity applet operating on the merchant computing device;
• establishing a proximity communication channel between the merchant computing device and the user computing device using the non-PPSE communication protocol by completing a handshake between the proximity applet and the proximity mobile application;
• and
• transmitting a merchant identifier to the user computing device using the non-PPSE communication protocol, wherein the merchant computing device continues with the payment process after transmission of the merchant identifier;
• and
• comprising by the user computing device:
• determining that a closed loop financial account is available for use during the payment transaction based on the received merchant identifier;
• enabling the closed loop financial account for use during the payment transaction;
• receiving a payment request from the merchant computing device for the payment transaction;
• preparing a response to the payment request comprising account information for the enabled closed loop financial account;
• and
• transmitting the response to the merchant computing device for processing.

A computer-implemented method to facilitate payments with closed loop financial accounts during proximity payment transactions, comprising by a merchant computing device:

• generating a radio frequency field polling for a user computing device, a user operating the user computing device intending to complete a payment transaction;
• interrupting a payment process for the payment transaction by initiating a non-Proximity Payment System Environment (non-PPSE) communication protocol with the user computing device;
• requesting activation of a proximity mobile application that corresponds to a proximity applet operating on the merchant computing device;
• establishing a proximity communication channel between the merchant computing device and the user computing device using the non-PPSE communication protocol by completing a handshake between the proximity applet and the proximity mobile application;
• transmitting a merchant identifier to the user computing device using the non-PPSE communication protocol, the user computing device determining that a closed loop financial account is available for use during the payment transaction based on the received merchant identifier and enabling the closed loop financial account;
• transmitting a payment request for the payment transaction to the user computing device, the user computing device preparing a response to the payment request comprising account information for the enabled closed loop financial account;
• and
• receiving, from the user computing device a response to the payment request comprising account information for the enabled closed loop financial account.
