## Abstract

A method and system for effecting changes on a mobile device. The method includes determining a physical location of a point of interest. The method includes automatically generating a geofence proximate to the point of interest based on the determined physical location. The method includes detecting when the mobile device enters the geofence. The method includes tracking a duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device. The method also includes effecting a change on the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method of effecting changes on a mobile device comprising:
determining a physical location of a point of interest;
automatically generating a geofence proximate to the point of interest based on the determined physical location;
detecting when the mobile device enters the geofence;
tracking a duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device; and
effecting a change on the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device comprises generating a route path to the point of interest.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a characteristic of a user associated with the mobile device, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device is further based on the determined characteristic.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The method of claim 3, wherein the determined characteristic is selected from one or more of following categories: location history of the mobile device, past purchases, browsing history, income of the user, and interests of the user.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein tracking the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device comprises detecting when the mobile device exits the geofence.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device comprises generating an advertisement.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a notification based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising transmitting the notification to another device, wherein the notification comprises an alert.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a route to the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising determining a location of the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The method of claim 10, further comprising:
communicating with another device, the communicating comprising transmitting the determined location to the another device.

### Claim 12 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device comprises adapting functionality of the mobile device.

### Claim 13

A system for effecting changes on a mobile device comprising:
a non-transitory memory storing instructions; and
a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute the instructions to cause the system to:
generate a geofence based on a user selection indicating a point of interest;
detect when the mobile device enters the geofence;
track a duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device; and
effect a change on the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device comprises generating a route map to the point of interest.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein executing the instructions further causes the system to determine a characteristic of a user associated with the mobile device, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device is further based on the determined characteristic.

### Claim 16 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein tracking the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device comprises detecting when the mobile device exits the geofence.

### Claim 17 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, executing the instructions further causes the system to,
generate a notification based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device; and
transmit the notification, comprising an alert, to another device.

### Claim 18 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, executing the instructions further causes the system to determine a route to the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 19 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, executing the instructions further causes the system to determine a location of the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 20 (depends on 13)

The system of claim 13, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device comprises adapting functionality of the mobile device by providing an application service.

### Claim 21

A non-transitory machine-readable medium having instructions stored thereon, the instructions executable to cause performance of operations comprising:
generating a geofence based on a user selection indicating a point of interest;
detecting when a mobile device enters the geofence;
tracking a duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device; and
effecting a change on the mobile device based on the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the operations further comprise determining a characteristic of a user associated with the mobile device, wherein the effecting the change on the mobile device is further based on the determined characteristic.

### Claim 23 (depends on 21)

The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 21, wherein the tracking the duration of time spent within the geofence by the mobile device comprises detecting when the mobile device exits the geofence.
