## Abstract

A computer-implemented method for interactive information and identification is disclosed, which can be for emergency or non-emergency information. The method includes receiving, by a processor, a notification concerning an emergency (or non-emergency) situation, wherein the notification includes a location of the situation, and defining, by the processor, a geo-fence representing a first physical area surrounding the location of the situation. The method further includes receiving, by the processor, location information representing locations of a plurality of user devices, each user device being associated with an individual, and determining, by the processor, which of the user devices are located within the geo-fence based on the location information. Additionally, the method includes transmitting, by the processor, information about the situation to the user devices located within the geo-fence.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A computer-implemented method for interactive emergency information and identification, which method comprises:
receiving a first notification concerning an emergency situation, wherein the first notification includes a first location of the emergency situation;
defining a geo-fence with a first shape representing a physical area surrounding the first location of the emergency situation based on the first notification,
receiving location information representing a location of a user device, the user device being associated with an individual;
determining a position of the user device with respect to the geo-fence based on the location information;
receiving, subsequent to the first notification, a second notification concerning the emergency situation; and
redefining the geo-fence with a second shape based on the second notification.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second notification is generated based on information received from the user device.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second notification is generated based on information received from an external source including one or more of a first responder, a law enforcement agency, and a news outlet.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the second notification comprises a second location of the emergency situation different than the first location.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the first shape is a first circle with a first radius centered on the first location of the emergency situation.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the second shape is a second circle with a second radius different than the first radius.

### Claim 7 (depends on 5)

The method of claim 5, wherein the second shape is a second circle centered on a second location of the emergency situation different than the first location.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising receiving, subsequent to the second notification, updated location information representing the location of the user device in the second shape of the redefined geo-fence.

### Claim 9

A computer-implemented method for interactive emergency information and identification, which method comprises:
receiving geographical information of a physical area including a landmark within the physical area;
receiving a notification concerning an emergency situation, wherein the notification includes a location of the emergency situation within the physical area;
defining a geo-fence with a shape based on the landmark within the physical area;
receiving location information representing a location of a user device, the user device being respectively associated with an individual;
determining a position of the user device within the physical area based on the location information;
generating a graphical map comprising the physical area, the geo-fence, and the location of the user device; and
displaying the graphical map to a user.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, further comprising generating one or more proximity zones within the geo-fence relative to the location of the emergency situation;
determining whether the location of the user device is within the one or more proximity zones; and
displaying the one or more proximity zones on the graphical map.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the landmark is a natural feature within the physical area.

### Claim 12 (depends on 9)

The method of claim 9, wherein the landmark is a manmade feature within the physical area.

### Claim 13 (depends on 12)

The method of claim 12, wherein the landmark is a building.

### Claim 14 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, where the geo-fence is defined to coincide with exterior boundaries of the building.

### Claim 15 (depends on 13)

The method of claim 13, further comprising generating one or more proximity zones within the geo-fence relative to the location of the emergency situation, wherein the one or more proximity zones represent one or more portions of the building.

### Claim 16

A computer-implemented method for tracking individuals, which method comprises:
receiving geographical information of a physical area including a landmark within the physical area;
establishing a beacon within the physical area, such that a virtual boundary extends around the beacon and a portion of the landmark;
receiving location information representing locations of a plurality of user devices, each user device being respectively associated with an individual;
determining positions of the plurality of user devices within the physical area based on the location information; and
generating a list of one or more user devices with a determined position within the virtual boundary.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, further comprising sending a notification to the one or more user devices with a determined position within the virtual boundary.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the landmark is a building.

### Claim 19 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the beacon is established adjacent to the landmark.

### Claim 20 (depends on 16)

The method of claim 16, wherein the virtual boundary has a circular shape centered on the beacon.
