Autonomous vehicle providing driver education

A method comprising:

• conducting, by an autonomous vehicle comprising a head-up display, a training session wherein a student driver carried on-board the autonomous vehicle is trained to drive;
• approaching, by an autonomous vehicle during the conducting, a section of road;
• generating, by an autonomous vehicle during the conducting, a plan for navigating the section of road;
• receiving, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting, instructions from a student driver for navigating the section of road;
• implementing, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting, the instructions when the autonomous vehicle determines that doing so would be safe and legal;
• executing, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting, the plan when the autonomous vehicle determines that implementing the instructions would not be safe and legal;
• providing, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting, visual feedback to the student driver on the head-up display regarding a driving performance of the student driver;
• monitoring, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting, one or more biological functions of the student driver;
• determining, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting based on the one or more biological functions, a stress level of the student driver;
• and
• making, by the autonomous vehicle during the conducting, the training session easier for the student driver when the autonomous vehicle determines that the stress level is above a threshold.

A system comprising:

• an autonomous vehicle comprising a head-up display;
• at least one processor carried on-board the autonomous vehicle;
• and
• memory operably connected to the at least one processor, the memory storing software programmed to
• conduct a training session wherein a student driver carried on-board the autonomous vehicle is trained to drive,
• generate, during the training session, a plan for navigating a section of road,
• analyze, during the training session, instructions received from the student driver for navigating the section of road,
• implement, during the training session, the instructions when the analysis indicates that doing so would be safe and legal,
• execute, during the training session, the plan when the analysis indicates that implementing the instructions would not be safe and legal,
• provide, during the training session, visual feedback to the student driver on the head-up display regarding a driving performance of the student driver,
• store, during the training session, a log of the driving performance and the plan, and
• send the log to a remote storage device so that the log is accessible by the student driver off-board the autonomous vehicle.
