Abstract
An active injection guide concurrently monitors surface contact and an instantaneous contact force along an injection axis of an injector in order to ensure that the injector is properly positioned on a patient before an injection can be initiated.
Claims22
An active injection guide comprising:
- an injector having an injection axis;
- a contact surface configured to be placed on a target surface for an injection from the injector;
- a contact sensor coupled to the contact surface, the contact sensor configured to detect an orientation of the injection axis to the target surface;
- and
- a load sensor coupled to the contact surface and configured to measure a force against the target surface along the injection axis.

A method for guiding an injection device, the method comprising:
- detecting a contact and an orientation between a contact surface of an active injection guide of the injection device and a target surface;
- measuring a force along an injection axis for the injection device, the injection axis being at an acute angle relative to the target surface when the contact surface is in planar contact with the target surface;
- and
- providing user feedback from the injection device when the orientation and the force are within predetermined ranges suitable for injection.

A method for guiding an injection device, the method comprising:
- detecting, by a contact sensor, a contact and an orientation between a contact surface of an active injection guide of the injection device and a target surface;
- measuring, by a load sensor, a force along an injection axis for the injection device, the injection axis being at an acute angle relative to the target surface when the contact sensor detects the contact between the contact surface and the target surface;
- and
- automatically initiating an injection from the injection device when the orientation and the force are within predetermined ranges suitable for injection.
