Abstract
A disposable absorbent article having a longitudinally channeled absorbent core structure is disclosed.
Claims24
An absorbent article comprising:
- a) a topsheet;
- b) a backsheet;
- c) an absorbent structure disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, the absorbent structure comprising a first substrate, a second substrate, and an absorbent material layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and comprising a combination of absorbent polymer particles and wood pulp fibers;
- d) an acquisition/distribution layer disposed between the absorbent structure and the topsheet;
- and
- e) a channel defined in the absorbent material layer that is substantially free of the combination of absorbent polymer particles and wood pulp fibers, the channel comprising a first channel end and a second channel end;
- f) wherein the channel comprises a permanent portion wherein the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate in both an article dry state and wet state;
- g) wherein the channel comprises a temporary portion wherein the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate in an article dry state but wherein the first substrate releases from the second substrate when the article is in a wet state;
- and
- h) wherein the temporary portion is located at the first channel end and/or the second channel end.

- c) an absorbent structure disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, the absorbent structure comprising a first substrate, a second substrate, and an absorbent material layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and comprising a combination of absorbent polymer particles and wood pulp fibers;
- d) an acquisition/distribution layer disposed between the absorbent structure and the topsheet;
- and
- e) a channel defined in the absorbent material layer that is substantially free of the combination of absorbent polymer particles and wood pulp fibers, the channel comprising a channel length;
- f) wherein the channel comprises permanent portions wherein the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate in both an article dry state and wet state;
- g) wherein the channel comprises temporary portions wherein the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate in an article dry state but wherein the first substrate releases from the second substrate when the article is in a wet state;
- and
- h) wherein the temporary portions are disposed intermittently along the channel length.

An absorbent article comprising:
- a) a topsheet;
- b) a backsheet;
- c) an absorbent structure disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, the absorbent structure comprising a first substrate, a second substrate, and an absorbent material layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and comprising a combination of absorbent polymer particles and wood pulp fibers;
- d) an acquisition/distribution layer disposed between the absorbent structure and the topsheet;
- and
- e) a channel defined in the absorbent material layer that is substantially free of the combination of absorbent polymer particles and wood pulp fibers, the channel comprising a channel length;
- f) wherein the channel comprises permanent portions wherein the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate in both an article dry state and wet state;
- g) wherein the channel comprises temporary portions wherein the first substrate is bonded to the second substrate in an article dry state but wherein the first substrate releases from the second substrate when the article is in a wet state;
- and
- h) wherein the temporary portions are alternately arranged with the permanent portions so that one of the temporary portions resides between two permanent portions along the channel length.
