## Abstract

A device and method for performing anastomosis is described. In one embodiment according to the present invention, the device comprises a ring that has a plurality of pins extending from various locations on the ring. During a procedure, the pins are passed through portions of tissue and the ring is everted or radially flipped inside out to connect the tissues together.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A device for connecting internal spaces of two biological structures within a patient, comprising:
a ring; and,
a plurality of pins connected to the ring;
wherein the device is configured to evert from a first configuration in which the plurality of pins have a first orientation to a second configuration in which the plurality of pins of a second orientation.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the ring comprises a wire forming a plurality of waves.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein the plurality of waves is formed from a plurality of alternating, repeating curves in the wire.

### Claim 4 (depends on 2)

The device of claim 2, wherein the plurality of waves are each rectangular.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pins curves radially inwardly when the device is in the first configuration and curves radially outwardly when the device is in the second configuration.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the plurality of pins further comprises a first plurality of pins having a first length and a second plurality of pins having a second length.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the ring is diametrically circular or oval shaped.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the ring is completely closed or an open “C” shape.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the ring is comprised of an elastomeric material.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a delivery tool having a sleeve sized to engage a portion of the ring and twist the ring to eversion between the first configuration and the second configuration.

### Claim 9 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, further comprising a delivery tool having a tubular structure sized to radially compress the device.

### Claim 10 (depends on 1)

The device of claim 1, wherein the ring comprises a wire forming a plurality of waves having alternating peaks and troughs in the first configuration and wherein each of the plurality of pins are connected at one of the troughs.

### Claim 11 (depends on 10)

The device of claim 10, wherein the plurality of pins all curve radially inward in the first configuration and extend beyond the peaks of the ring.

### Claim 12 (depends on 10)

The device of claim 10, wherein the plurality of pins all curve radially inward in the first configuration and terminate at a height lower than the peaks of the ring.

### Claim 13 (depends on 10)

The device of claim 10, wherein the plurality of pins all curve radially inward in the first configuration, and wherein the plurality of pins alternates between a pin that terminates at a height lower than the peaks of the ring and a pin that terminates extends beyond the peaks of the ring.

### Claim 14

A method of connecting two biological passages within a patient, comprising:
inserting pins of a connection device through tissue in proximity of a first opening of a first biological structure;
inserting pins of the connection device through tissue in proximity of the second opening of a second biological structure;
everting a ring of the connection device so as to change an orientation of the pins and thereby press the tissue in proximity of the first opening and the second opening against each other.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein the two biological structures are two tubular structures.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein the two biological structures include a tubular structure and a non-tubular cavity.

### Claim 17 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein one or more of the two biological structures are blood vessels, portions of intestinal tract, portions of ducts, portions of urinary tract, or portions of prosthetic tubes.

### Claim 18 (depends on 14)

The method of claim 14, wherein everting the ring further comprises operating a delivery tool to engage the device and twist a portion of the device to cause eversion of the device.
