## Abstract

A tamper-proof bait station system that is capable of being weighted down to prevent an animal from removing the bait station from a desired location being treated for rodent or pest infestation. The tamper-proof bait station also includes a locking cap or cover used to secure a cover and base together.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A tamper-resistant bait station for holding a poison used to eliminate a pest, the bait station comprising:
a tank having a top, bottom and a side wall defining a tank interior adapted to receive a material, the tank having at least one access opening that permits entry of the pest into an interior of the bait station, the side wall having an externally threaded first latch portion extending outwardly therefrom;
a cover having a top and a side wall, the cover being selectively positionable between an open and closed position to permit access to the interior of the bait station, the side wall of the cover having a second externally threaded latch portion extending outwardly therefrom that is matable with the first latch portion when the cover is in the closed position; and
a cap being threadedly matable to the first and second latch portions, the cap being adapted to resist unthreading absent application of a force axial to a rotational movement of the cap.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 1, further comprising an access hole extending into the interior of the tank to permit the entry and exit of the material such that the material is adapted to add weight to the bait station to restrict its movement.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 2, further comprising a threaded collar extending about the access hole, the threaded collar being selectively closable.

### Claim 4 (depends on 3)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 3, further comprising a cover that is adapted to selectively cover the access hole of the tank.

### Claim 5 (depends on 3)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 3, further comprises a poison support tray positionable on at least a portion of the tank, the poison support tray includes a lower surface having at least one opening orientatable proximate the at least one ramp portion to permit rodent access to the poison positioned on the tray.

### Claim 6 (depends on 5)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 5, further comprising at least one pin extending from the lower surface of the tray, wherein the poison is securable over the at least one pin to restrict its removal from the bait station.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 1, further comprising poison adapted to placed on the top wall of the tank, wherein rodents entering the interior of the bait station are able to consume the poison.

### Claim 8 (depends on 5)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 5, further comprising a threaded collar extending about the access hole and through an opening in the lower surface of the poison support tray, the collar permit a filling of the tank without removal of the poison support tray.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 8, further comprising a cover removably securable to the threaded collar to selectively cover the access hole of the tank.

### Claim 10 (depends on 9)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 9, wherein the cover has a width greater than a width of the access hole to prevent separation of the poison support tray from the tank.

### Claim 11

A tamper-resistant bait station for holding a poison used to eliminate a pest, the bait station comprising:
a base having a top wall, a bottom wall, and a side wall defining an enclosed interior adapted to retain a weighted material, the side wall and top wall each having at least one access opening connected by a ramp portion that permits entry of the pest onto the top wall, the side wall having an outwardly extending externally threaded first latch portion;
a cover having a top and a side wall, the cover being selectively positionable between an open and a closed position to permit access to the top wall of the base, the side wall of the cover having an outwardly extending externally threaded second latch portion that is matable with the first latch portion when the cover is in the closed position; and
a cap being threadedly matable to the first and second latch portions, the cap being adapted to resist unthreading absent application of a force axial to a rotational movement of the cap.

### Claim 12 (depends on 11)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 11, further comprising:
a material access opening extending through the top wall of the base to permit selective placement of a weighted material into the interior to restrict its movement; and
a cover that is selectively matable with the top wall to selectively cover the material access opening.

### Claim 13 (depends on 11)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 11, further comprising at least one pin extending from the top wall of the base, wherein the poison is securable over the at least one pin to restrict its removal from the bait station.

### Claim 14 (depends on 11)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 11, further comprises a removable poison support tray positionable above the top wall of the base, the poison support tray includes a lower surface having at least one opening orientatable proximate the at least one ramp portion to permit rodent access to the poison positioned on the poison support tray.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 14, further comprising a collar extending from the material access opening and through an opening in the lower surface of the poison support tray, wherein the collar permits a filling of the base without removal of the poison support tray.

### Claim 16 (depends on 14)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 14, further comprising a cover having a skirt that is removably securable to the collar to selectively cover the material access opening of the base.

### Claim 17 (depends on 16)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 16, wherein the cover includes a threaded skirt that is matable with a threaded outer surface of the collar.

### Claim 18 (depends on 16)

The tamper-resistant bait station of claim 16, wherein the cover has a width greater than a width of the material access opening to prevent separation of the poison support tray from the base.

### Claim 19

A method of restricting access to an interior of a bait station that holds a poison used to eliminate a pest, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a tank having a top, bottom and a side wall defining an interior for receiving a material, the top wall of the tank dividing the bait station into a bait station interior and a tank interior, the tank having at least one access opening that permits entry of the pest into the bait station interior, the side wall having an externally threaded first latch portion extending outwardly therefrom;
providing a cover having a top and a side wall, the cover being selectively positionable between an open and closed position to permit access to the bait station interior, the side wall of the cover having a second externally threaded latch portion extending outwardly therefrom that is matable with the first latch portion when the cover is in the closed position; and
providing a cap having a threaded skirt that is threadedly matable to the first and second externally threaded latch portions.

### Claim 20 (depends on 19)

The method of claim 19, further comprising the step of applying a force axial to a rotational movement of the cap to unthread the cap from the first and second externally threaded latch portions.
